In the south of Moldova in Gagauzia, in the village of Tomai, is the winery “Tomai Vinex” – one of the most popular wineries of the steppe Bugeac.
Since 1903, the wine growers in the village of Tomai were famous for production of traditional wines, known throughout the country. In the same year, the winegrower Gheorghii Topciu laid the foundations of the vineyard and created the cellars for storing the wine produced. For 50 years, the family’s winery was renowned for its sweet southern wines, which were found on the tables of the locals of Moldova and neighboring countries.
Since 1997, based on the original winery, the company “Tomai Vinex” was created, which today is famous for the complete cycle of the wine-making process – from the grape growing to the wine production. The technical equipment of the plant was changed to the most modern the vineyards were increased. Today the company produces about 3 million liters of wine, the demand on the market being high, which demonstrates the many quality medals won at international competitions. The geography of Tomai wine of Gagauzia exports covers Asia, Europe, America and even Africa.
